As an indispensable material in modern construction, the installation quality of PVC water pipes directly affects the safety and service life of the entire water supply system. However, in actual installation processes, many construction personnel often make technical mistakes that lead to leakage, deformation, and even pipe bursts during later use. This article analyzes common installation mistakes and provides professional solutions.
Mistake 1: Ignoring environmental temperature effects. PVC materials become brittle at low temperatures and soften and expand at high temperatures. Many installers fail to consider seasonal and environmental factors, using the same process standards, causing pipe failure under extreme weather conditions. The correct practice is: when working in low-temperature environments below 0°C, pipe materials should be kept at room temperature for 24 hours beforehand; in high-temperature environments above 35°C, sufficient expansion gaps must be reserved, typically 10-15mm per 6 meters of pipe length.
Mistake 2: Improper use of adhesive. Excessive use of adhesive not only wastes material but can also cause blockages from internal buildup; insufficient amounts fail to ensure sealing. The professional approach is: use specialized PVC pipe adhesive, applying only to the inner wall of the socket and the outer wall of the spigot, with an application thickness of 0.3-0.5mm. After insertion, rotate 90 degrees to ensure even distribution, and avoid movement for at least 2 hours.
Mistake 3: Unreasonable support spacing. Excessive support spacing can cause pipes to sag and deform under water pressure, especially noticeable in horizontally installed hot water pipelines. Standards specify: maximum support spacing for cold water pipes is 1.0-1.2 meters, for hot water pipes 0.8-1.0 meters, and vertical pipes require at least two fixed supports per floor level.
Mistake 4: Neglecting hydraulic pressure testing. Many contractors skip adequate hydraulic testing to meet tight schedules. Professional standards require: after installation, a static hydraulic pressure test at 1.5 times the working pressure should be conducted, maintained for no less than 2 hours, while observing pressure gauge changes and checking for joint leaks.
Additionally, attention should be paid to ensuring clean pipe cuts with proper beveling; different pressure-rated pipes should not be mixed; exposed pipes should be protected from direct sunlight; and buried pipes require anti-corrosion treatment with warning tapes installed.
By standardizing installation techniques, the service life of PVC water pipe systems can be extended to over 50 years, far exceeding the 10-15 years from improper installation. It's recommended that users select professionally trained installation teams and request complete installation records and warranty commitments to ensure safe and reliable operation of the water supply system.
